“Bailando con Mi Misma (Dancing with My Self”) explores movement using gestural line to evoke the kinetic interplay of the human form. I appropriate the bodies of others to capturing the essence of sensual enticement of couples dancing.

In order to express my vision, each monotype is created with multiple layers. I use color to establish a sense of passionate drama and excitement, black to emphasize the energy and diversity of line, and acrylic medium on isolated areas to emphasize the tantalizing nature of my work. The allusion of sexual intimacy is heightened by both a flirtatious manipulation of the subject matter through selective posing, composition and cropping. At times I use the paper to color my subject, and other times I explore different aspect of my bi-racial identity through inventive skin tone colors. I use Spanish titles because I like the tongue-in-cheek aspect they add to my work.

I’m intrigued by the possibilities of expressing the passions connected with dance from an artistic self-perspective. Through the act of creating my work, I’m investigating an awareness of my primal feminine and masculine self. I become the performer and my audience, voyeur, as I blur the lines between dancing and intimacy.
