The Color of Women: Portrait of Yolanda Whittaker Hilliard, OBGYN
Yolanda Lavern Whittaker Hilliard has practiced obstetrics and gynecology since 1984, serving the San Antonio community. She was inspired to practice medicine by a “kind-hearted, gentle and uplifting" husband and wife physician team in the Houston neighborhood of her upbringing, during a time of racial segregation. She has turned that memory into her working philosophy, treating her patients with "respect, consideration of their circumstance, and kindness.”
Dr. Yolanda says her role as a mother “trumps” that of physician, and she does “not perceive that either patient care or motherhood have suffered” through her dedication to both.
